Ethiopia Sidamo

Coffee from the Sidama region is known worldwide for its outstanding taste — it is one of the softest and most delicate varieties of Arabica grown in Ethiopia. Coffee in this area is traditionally grown by small landowners.

Height of growth: 1800 – 2000 meters above sea level.

Climate and Geography. Sidamo plantations are located on the plateau in the south of Ethiopia (which is considered to be the historical homeland of Arabica), where the height above sea level reaches almost 2000 meters. The berries ripening period is extended because of such heights, which makes it possible for beans to obtain a rich flavour profile. Berries ripen from September to December, depending on the rainfall distribution and the height of a particular plantation.

Taste. High altitudes make Ethiopian coffee as full-bodied and flavourful as aged French wine. Coffee from this region has an elegant citrus sourness with a bright taste of tropical fruits and berries, floral flavours and a light woody aroma.
